Free Training for Teaching Assistants supporting Numeracy
HADC IS DELIGHTED TO OFFER FREE TRAINING TO TEACHING ASSISTANTS – A SHORT COURSE TO SUPPORT NUMERACY SKILLS IN KS1 AND KS2 IS BEGINNING IN MARCH.
The Supporting Numeracy Skills short course (6 half day sessions) is accredited by the National Open Colleges Network (NOCN) at Level 3 and is aimed at Teaching Assistants who support learners in mathematics in Key Stages 1 and 2.
The course will help Teaching Assistants to:
- Understand the difficulties that learners encounter in numeracy and the possible reasons for these difficulties.
- Analyse learners’ mathematical skills and identify the ‘point of breakdown’
- Plan a programme of support
- Give effective support in maths
- Develop mathematical resources
- Evaluate effectiveness of the programme
- Evaluate effectiveness of their own learning
Candidates will be required to carry out several assignments during the course and provide Logs of Support detailing a total of 4 hours support given to a learner/learners. Some resources will be included. The six sessions will beheld from 9.30– 12.30pm at St Paul’s Church Centre, Salisbury. Dates will be advised.
